The purpose of the Poompuhar State Award is to recognize and honor craftspersons who have made significant contributions to the development of Tamil Nadu's crafts.

The rewards for the Poompuhar State Award include a cash prize of ₹50,000/-, a four-gram gold medal, Thamirapathiram, and a certificate of recognition.

Artisans can apply for the Poompuhar State Award through the Tamil Nadu Handicrafts Development Corporation.

Ten artisans are selected per year for the Poompuhar State Award.

Eligibility for the Poompuhar State Award includes being above 30 years of age and from Tamil Nadu.

The production of handicrafts for the award should be completed within 30 days after the application deadline.

Officers or managers of the company will inspect and record the production process for the award.

Evidence, such as photographs and videos, must be submitted along with the award material.

An affidavit of the artisan on Rs. 20 stamp paper or attestation by a Notary Public is required for the award.

The management is not liable for any damage to the prize material during competition-related activities, and no compensation will be provided.

Artisans may be invited for an interview if required by the head office to check their ability to describe the recipe and craftsmanship.

The interview aims to assess the artisan's ability to describe the recipe and craftsmanship.

The completed application forms should be submitted to the Head Office in Chennai.

Submissions for the award are accepted at the head office in Chennai during office days (Monday to Friday).

No compensation will be provided for any damage to the prize material caused by competition-related activities.
