(IWAI is a statutory body under the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways, Government of India)

IWAI provides an opportunity for Internship Programme to college/ university students in a specific area of work to the intern on the basis of his/her application and selection process followed by IWAI. IWAI offers the opportunity to students to undertake an internship at its Headquarters located in Noida, U.P. and various regional offices located across pan India. The programme provides an excellent opportunity to interns to familiarise themselves with the overall proof of the development of the Inland Waterways Authority of India at the macro level. An intern may be required to work at Head Office or Project Office depending upon the requirement of the Authority.

The particular field could be Marine Engineering, Hydrography, Fairway Development, River Information Systems, Traffic and Cargo Handling, Terminal Planning and Operations, Vessels Operations, Navigation & Vessel Traffic Management Systems, River Cruises & related affairs, Indo-Bangladesh Protocol Route, Capacity Building, Finance, Administration, Information Technology related to Water Transport, Legal and HR etc. This will depend upon the requirements received from relevant departments of IWAI every year.

Purpose
To provide Selected Candidates with short-term exposure to different verticals/ divisions/ units of IWAI as "Interns".

Objectives
  1. To allow young academic talent to be associated with IWAI work for mutual benefit.
  2. The "Interns" shall have the opportunity to know about IWAI functioning, understand the overall process of development of the Inland Waterways Sector of India at the macro level, issues faced and contribute towards inputs, analysis, report writing, and proposal preparation work.

Availability
Internships shall be available throughout the year based on the requirements of IWAI.

Number of Interns
The maximum number of interns during the year to be trained at IWAI:
  • Undergraduate - 10 (Ten)
  • Post Graduate/ Research Scholar - 15 (Fifteen)

Duration
The duration of the internship will be for a minimum period of One (01) month and a maximum (03) months as decided by the Competent Authority, IWAI but not exceeding (06) months.
NOTE: Interns not completing the requisite period as stipulated in their offer will not be issued with any certificate.

Attachment
The interns would be attached with one Director/Deputy Director level officer in the concerned Division of the Authority.
The internship is neither a job nor any assurance of a job in IWAI.
